Skype 2.2 beta planes on Windows Mobile
Luxembourg – Skype yesterday announced the availability of the beta version of Skype 2.2 for Windows Mobile, the edition of the well-known soft-VoIP for those who want to take advantage of Internet telephony via their smartphone.
Eric Lagier, Head of Skype’s Mobile Business, said: “We have now added smartphone support and extended the range of supported Pocket PCs. In fact, over 90% of Windows Mobile devices with WiFi connectivity can take advantage of the Skype client ”. David McQueen, Principle analyst at Informa Telecoms and Media, comments: “Windows Mobile is well supported in the prosumer market (professional / consumer, ed). We anticipate that sales of smartphones with Windows Mobile will continue to register significant volumes and grow further in North America by the end of 2006. By 2011 it will be the most popular operating system in that area and Skype has the numbers to conquer the market leadership ” .

The features disclosed for the new version are the following:
– Support for Windows Mobile smartphones and various Pocket PC devices;
– Screen with presence status, event notification (missed calls, new chat messages, voicemail);
– Support for HTTP, HTTPS, HTTPS / SSL and SOCKS5 proxies.
