In Windows 10, you can disable the speakers and microphones for a long time, but the settings have been buried deep in the Control Panel, making it a somewhat difficult task for most regular users.

Starting with Windows 10 version 1809 (October 2018 update), the Settings app has been updated to offer an easier way to disable the input and output devices connected to your computer.

In this guide, you will learn the steps to quickly disable (or enable) the speakers and microphone in Windows 10 version 1809.

How to disable the speakers and microphone using Settings

To disable the speakers and microphone with the Settings app in Windows 10, follow these steps:

  2. click on System.

  3. click on Sound.

If you want to re-enable the speakers and microphone, you can follow the same instructions, but be sure to click the Enable button in step Number 6 and step No. 8.

If you don’t see options to disable your input and output devices, it is likely that you are not running the version of Windows 10 that supports this feature. The ability to control these settings is available starting with the Windows 10 October 2018 Update.
