AT&T, 600 free hot spots for California
San Diego – Smoke still rises from the wildfires that ravaged California in recent days. AT&T has announced its intention to provide citizens of the affected areas with a free WiFi connectivity service: there are at least 600, according to users of Digg, the hot-spots that the telecommunications giant has made available to residents, starting from 27 October.
“We hope to offer families and friends a way to stay in touch – and to reunite – in these difficult times,” announced the vice president of AT&T. Southern California residents will also be able to keep informed and inform netizens by taking advantage of the connectivity offered by the operator for a period of around three weeks.
A charity initiative on the back of New Orleans’ post-Katrina WiFi? A marketing strategy? Businessshrink.biz ventures this is a move designed by the operator to recover points after he demanded an immediate refund of $ 300 from a San Diego couple for a satellite receiver lost in the fires. (GB)
