Once upon a time, an initiative called Xbox Live Indie Games, which allowed hobbyist game creators to release software to the Xbox 360 without the need for an editor. A handful of notable titles have emerged under this initiative, including Shoot 1 Up by a team called Mommy’s Best Games. By the way, we are going back a decade.
It was a shooting game with a twist, which encouraged you to collect 1Ups to add additional spaceships to the screen. Shoot 1Up DX is based on the original version, with remastered artwork and additional levels. It will be out on February 11 for PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 4, although we think it refers to the backward compatibility of Sony’s next-gen console. We will verify.
“I love Sony consoles and seeing our armada of multi-ship robots making their way to the PS5 and PS4 is a real treat,” exclaimed lead designer Nathan Fouts in the game’s press release. Shoot 1UP DX is a breath of retro fun, but also very accommodating for gamers new to the genre. You can see a preview embedded above.
