One look at Squad 51 and you’ll know exactly what it’s aiming for. From Assemble Entertainment publisher, this is essentially a 2D shoot ’em up, but it’s the presentation that sets it apart. While most shmups are super colorful with futuristic backgrounds, this one goes the other way around, taking on the look of a 1950s sci-fi movie.
This means a grainy black and white look when you fly an old school fighter jet against shiny, spinning UFOs. It certainly looks like the game, but what about the game itself? Well, there are four planes to choose from and you can customize them with a number of special weapons. The levels will be punctuated by FMV scenes, which should be a treat. It even supports second player co-op if you want to team up with a friend.
Squadron 51 is coming to PlayStation 4 in 2021. What do you think of this one? Are you a fan of the aesthetics of this game? Chocks in the comment section below.
