Samsung Electronics announces the new LCD panel
Rome – Samsung Electronics today announced that it has developed the largest thin-film transistor liquid crystal display (TFT-LCD) panel that does not require a color filter.
The new 32-inch panel, born for the TV market, uses a sequential method of color processing, to accurately and immediately determine the correct tones for the respective colors, based on the emission time of RGB colors from the LED backlight.
The Korean giant explained that classic LCDs require cold cathode fluorescence (CCFL) lighting and a color filter to separate the white light emitted from RGB sub-pixels.
Samsung also stated that the panel will only consume 82 watts, which is about 60 percent of the power that a conventional panel with 500nit brightness illumination needs.
Furthermore, it appears that the response time is less than 5 ms, making the product suitable for multimedia use where an accurate display of the content is required.
Mass production of the 32-inch panel without filters is scheduled for the second half of 2006.
