Netsky, the source is on BitTorrent

As reported by reader “ddelta64”, yesterday on the BitTorrent network appeared the source code of the Netsky.AE mass mailing worm, a variant of a strain of malware that since 2004 has dominated the rankings of the most prolific and widespread worms in the world.

Whoever posted the code on BitTorrent claims to have found it on the newsgroups. Inside the shared package, almost 95 KB in size, are the worm’s C ++ sources and headers and a description of Netsky.AE taken from the Symantec site.

Malware authors are usually quite jealous of their work, and only share it – when they do – with a small circle of “colleagues”. The public availability of the Netsky.AE code could further increase the number of variants of the worm in a short time, especially considering that the code appears well written and partially commented.
