Modena, Police against mobile phones behind the wheel
Modena – Before coming to use automatic detection systems that track down motorists who call without hands-free or headset, the Municipal Police of Modena this week launched a campaign against this bad habit, which is already giving some results.
ADUC’s UltimoMiglio.news news reports that the 69 targeted road checks, carried out on the first day, led the agents to raise 22 penalties to as many undisciplined drivers, caught talking with their mobile phones while driving: “According to the first data from roadside checks, 32 percent of Modenese motorists travel with their mobile phones glued to their ears. A worrying percentage – observes the commander of the Modena Municipal Police Fabio Leonelli – because this indiscriminate use reduces attention to driving, creating a danger for the driver but also for other road users ”.
“Drivers must understand that this is a violation of the Highway Code which provides for a fine of 70 euros and the deduction of five points from the driving permit,” concluded the officer.
The intensive campaign, with specific controls, is only at the beginning and is destined to affect the whole country. On the website of the State Police, in the section dedicated to the FAQ, you can find a simple memorandum on the rules governing the use of mobile phones in the car.
