At the beginning of 2019, I deleted my WhatsApp account and moved to Telegram (for testing purposes). And honestly I think Telegram to replace WhatsAppIs the best option. Unfortunately, not all of my contacts still use the WhatsApp alternative. Here’s why I think they should be.

Of course, nobody has to be as radical as me and delete their WhatsApp account immediately. Cans install Telegram for free and use it in parallel with WhatsApp. And you can also uninstall Telegram without a trace; your account will be deleted after six months of inactivity if you decide it’s not for you after all.

Telegram to replace WhatsApp

Since I have already gained some experience, I will now present you with my most important findings on why you should trust Telegram to replace WhatsApp:

Telegram on several devices in parallel and without a phone number

The biggest drawback of WhatsApp is that you can only use it on a single smartphone. Through WhatsApp Web, it can be run on tablets or PCs, but it still dependss of whatsapp in youor smartphone. If your phone runs out of battery, reception or data volume, you will no longer be able to access it through WhatsApp.

With Telegram, I’m not aware of any limitations on how many devices you can register in parallel.

Use Telegram with two phone numbers

Telegram has integrated account management, which is especially handy for dual SIM smartphones. If you use the service privately for friends and on a different number for companies or Telegram groups, cans manage both numbers in the same app. Account switching is as simple as Gmail. Just open the menu, tap your profile picture, tap add account and write the second mobile phone number.

Telegram makes permanent backups

One of the most annoying drawbacks of WhatsApp is its poor backups, which have to be done manually or at least activated.

Unlike WhatsApp, Telegram is cloud based. This means that as you type, messages are synced across all your registered devices and to Telegram’s cloud storage. Photos, videos and also other files (doc, zip, mp3, etc.) with a file size of up to 1.5 GB each are backed up.

Fittingly for the infinite storage space, Telegram also offers a global search. You can even search through old conversations and find even very old images and files. My personal advice is pprovide each file upload with a relevant description so you can easily find it later.

Telegram’s group chat feature is technically much more sophisticated than WhatsApp’s. And the larger the group, the more management features you have on Telegram.

Other unique Telegram points

In Telegram you will find many functions that are not available in WhatsApp, including…

  1. Secret chats, whose messages are deleted
  2. Stickers (custom)
  3. GIF search
  4. Global search for new groups.
  5. video news
  6. Find people around and chat
  7. Group surveys
  8. Schedule messages or send messages without sound

Telegram sounds too good to be true. As being able to use it on all your tablets and computers and with all your mobile numbers at the same time, it is more flexible than WhatsApp. Secret chats, infinite backup storage, and handy extra features complete the package. Since everyone can use Telegram for free, you should at least try it out with your friends.
