GdF: the pirate companies of Florence


In a press release, the Guardia di Finanza of Florence announced that it had carried out a series of inspections and inspections at the operational headquarters of companies, professional offices and Internet points located in the province of the Tuscan capital.

About 70 percent of the companies sifted through were using illegally duplicated software: 33 executives were sued for violating copyright law. During the searches 22 CD-ROMs, 220 computers and 556 pirated programs were seized. Business owners were also imposed administrative penalties equal to double the market price of the applications .

The GdF availed itself of the technical consultancy of Business Software Alliance, the association of proprietary software producers: BSA experts estimate the damage at 400 thousand euros immediately from software houses. Damage calculated on the list price of products used illegally, in particular those of Adobe, Autodesk, Microsoft, Symantec and McAfee. (LA)
