Experts from BSA, FPM, FAPAV and SKY held the first Sicilian seminars on the protection of intellectual property in Palermo and Trapani, seminars that are aimed at the Guardia di Finanza and the local police.

These meetings, defined as “updating”, which are carried out on the basis of those that are held periodically throughout the peninsula, will gradually be extended in the coming weeks to the other Sicilian provinces.

The seminars, sponsored by the State Commissariat for the Sicilian Region, were attended – explains a note – “over 120 officers and non-commissioned officers chosen from the departments that report to the Provincial Commands of the Guardia di Finanza and to the Local Police Commands of the municipalities of the provinces of Palermo and Trapani “.

According to the Deputy Commissioner of the State, Prefect Carmelo Spampinato, collaboration between producers and law enforcement is essential, a collaboration – he underlined – “which we intend to expand and strengthen because the protection of copyright plays an increasingly important role in modern economy, which cannot be underestimated in the Region that hosts what has been defined as the Italian Silicon Valley ”.

During the seminars, the note continues, “the current legislation on intellectual property and the most modern methodologies and techniques for conducting interventions against the phenomena of piracy and counterfeiting, often controlled by increasingly updated and equipped criminal organizations, were illustrated , which in the illegal duplication of CD-roms, music CDs, DVDs and video games, find a business characterized by more profitable profit margins than much riskier criminal activities “.
