Daewoo marries Blu-ray and DivX 6
The Korean Daewoo has announced the imminent launch on the market of a Blu-ray player, the DBP-1000, capable of playing videos in DivX format as well.
Like any recent Blu-ray player, the DBP-1000 is capable of reading BD-R / RE discs, DVDs and CDs, as well as MP3 audio tracks and JPEG photos. On top of that, the Daewoo player supports DivX 6 codec which allows it to play video content in high definition and with multi-track audio contained on traditional DVD media.
The device implements the Blu-ray specification in its entirety, including interactive features and the ability to access BD Live content online . Capable of achieving 1080p resolution, the DBP-1000 offers picture-in-picture viewing mode and compatibility with dual-layer BD media.
The company hasn’t disclosed the price of its player yet, but this should be in the upper mid-range of the market.
Sony has instead presented two new Blu-ray players, the expensive BDP-S2000ES and the entry-level BDP-S500 . Both support 1080p resolution at the same frame rate as cinema, 7.1 audio with PCM encoding, Dolby TrueHD or Dolby Digital Plus, and the HDMI 1.3 specification.
The two players will be launched on the US market in October at a price of $ 1,300 for the S2000ES and $ 700 for the S500.
